The Chicago Pneumatic CP7120 is a professional pneumatic needle scaler and chipping hammer designed for removing rust, scale, weld residue and other unwanted material from metal surfaces. In needle scaler mode, the 19 steel needles rapidly impact the work surface to break away rust, paint, scale and other surface contamination. The needle arrangement is particularly useful when working on irregular or uneven metal surfaces.
For heavier chipping tasks, the tool can be converted to use the supplied 35mm chisel. This configuration is suitable for removing weld slag, flux and other unwanted material from metal components.
With a maximum operating speed of 4,800 blows per minute, the CP7120 provides rapid repeated impact for surface cleaning and material removal.
Its 5.3 Joule impact energy and 28.4mm stroke give the tool the capacity to tackle demanding workshop jobs, from preparing rusty components for repair through to cleaning weld areas and removing stubborn deposits.
The CP7120's needle-scaling configuration uses 19 steel needles measuring 3mm. An adjustable needle sleeve helps position and retain the needle assembly during operation.
Needle scaling is particularly useful for rust removal and surface preparation on metalwork with uneven profiles, where maintaining consistent contact with a conventional abrasive tool can be difficult.
Typical applications include cleaning steel components, preparing surfaces before painting and removing corrosion from machinery and vehicle parts.
When additional impact and concentrated material removal is required, the CP7120 can be converted to a chipping hammer using its quick-change chisel retainer.
The supplied 35mm wide chisel has a 12.7mm (1/2") square shank, providing a practical setup for chipping and cleaning applications including weld slag and other unwanted deposits.
The Chicago Pneumatic CP7120 operates from a compressed-air supply through its 1/4" air inlet. Maximum dynamic working pressure is specified at 6.3 bar / 90 PSI, with air consumption of approximately 7.4 L/s or 15 CFM under load.
For reliable operation, the air compressor and airline should be capable of supplying the required Free Air Delivery (FAD). Chicago Pneumatic specifies a minimum 10mm internal hose diameter for a 5m hose.
Using an appropriately sized compressor, hose and air fittings helps maintain consistent performance during longer periods of pneumatic scaling and chipping.
